One of the things I get asked a lot is 'what on earth do you feed your son when he's allergic to everything?'

It's a very good question, allergy to dairy is bad enough, add egg, nut, peppers, citrus fruit and even tomato to the mix, and it's a recipe for potential disaster! If you look at most recipes, if they're not calling for dairy ingredients, it'll be tomato or peppers that they're after instead, or a combination of them all! Aaarrrrgggghhhh!

One way to try to get round it all is to come up with such good substitutes, you can't tell the difference, and believe me, that sounds much easier than it actually is. I'm sure anyone who is part of the allergy world will agree! In our house, if it doesn't pass the hubby test, then it's not good enough and the recipe has to be revisited until it works. There has been a LOT of trial and error in our house!!

After a number of trial and error sessions following something I stumbled across on google, I experimented with, and eventually perfected.

Hi! Just followed a link here from the fb CMPA support group. My daughter reacts to tomatoes and I have been looking for a decent alternative for ages! Only problem is that she also reacts to celerey :o(. Do you think I could remove this from the recipe and/or replace with something else? (As you can probably guess, I'm not a great cook and need to follow recipes to the letter to get anywhere!). x

Hiya! You poor thing, it's tough going when trying to deal with multiple allergies isn't it!!

I would double the quantity of the onions to compensate for removing the celery, and it should be fine! x

Thanks! I'll try that then. Looking forward to having pasta and 'red' sauce again. Took me a while to figure out that it was the tomatoes which gave my daughter time to decide she loved them! x
