bbc good food festival

We’ve been busy working on some amazing projects here at Intolerant G HQ over the past few weeks. And it’s now time to reveal all for one of them!

Cast your minds back to a few weeks ago, when we wrote a post about a2 Milk™, which followed on from a PR event we attended.

To quote directly from them:

‘Our cows produce great tasting fresh milk that naturally contains only the A2 protein. If drinking regular cows’ milk gives you digestive issues, you may just feel a difference with a2 Milk™.

Regular cows’ milk contains A1 and A2 proteins, and for some, A1 causes side effects such as bloating, nausea and mucus build up. Our British dairy cows are carefully selected because they naturally produce milk with only the A2 protein and no A1 protein, so it’s gentler on your stomach.

Many people can feel the difference after drinking a2 Milk™. If you have trouble digesting regular milk, a2 Milk™ could be for you.’

A2 Milk™ is one to watch for the gluten-intolerant world, here’s why:

Gluten and the A1 protein digest in a similar way; meaning that if you struggle with gluten, you may well struggle with the A1 protein found in dairy as well.

Could a2 Milk™ help me?

Now, a2 Milk™ is NOT suitable for Callum as he is severely allergic to milk proteins!

However, it got me thinking about me.

I have suffered with, and been diagnosed with IBS for over 15 years now, and still struggle to control and maintain the often painful flare ups. My big triggers are tomato, citrus fruit, grapes and potato.

But what if I’ve missed something totally obvious, such as the dairy?

So, I’m taking the 4 week challenge to see if consuming a2 Milk™ will make a difference. I’m cutting all other dairy out of my diet so that I give it a fair chance of working. I don’t know if it will work for me, but it’s certainly worth trying, and if it improves my symptoms, then happy days all round! I shall be blogging each week about how I get on, and whether I see any improvement to my symptoms.

But there’s more!

BBC Good Food Festival

I will be working with a2 Milk™ at the BBC Good Food Festival at Hampton Court on 29-31st August. There are many exciting things planned for the event, where they will be there showcasing a2 Milk™, hosting competitions, answering live Q&A’s, and also having live cooking demonstrations with myself!

It’s a great chance to come and speak to the fab people at a2 Milk™, understand what their product is all about, how it came about, and why, and to come and sample some of the delicious tasting food being created on the day.

I hope it makes a difference to your health - a friend of mine with IBS struggles with milk, so this might be the answer.

I love sweet and sour pork with noodles, made from scratch. It is so quick and easy to make but packed full of flavour and really good for you! I love it.

Hmm... favourite recipe is a tough one! Too many to choose. My eldest would say my homemade fajitas. They're her absolute favourite meal, made from scratch, & she easily packs away three wraps (no idea where she puts it all!). But MY favourite thing to make is probably tiramisu or, for proper cooking, glazed gammon. There's something really satisfying about poking all the cloves into the scored fat diamonds!

My favourite recipe at the moment is Thukpa, one that I learnt earlier this year whilst travelling in Nepal. It is a spicy noodle soup with chicken in and lots of veg and depending on how you make it has quite a kick! It is very common all over the Himalayan region. I've had quite a few colds this year and this has been an absolute go to recipe as the spicy chicken soup does wonders!
