Two years ago Allergy UK held a special event to showcase and champion those special people within the allergy world that have made a huge difference to many!

Allergy UK Hero Awards - celerating the special people in the allergy world that are making a difference, supporting others, the bravery of those suffering, and more! www.intolerantgourmand.com

As a fully signed up member of the allergy world, I’ve experienced first hand the difficulties that come with living with allergies and learning how to navigate a world that’s much harder to live in. I’ve documented for some time the struggles we went through with Callum went attempting to get diagnosis, and the subsequent difficulties as we learned a whole new way of cooking and keeping him safe.

During our journey I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some truly inspirational individuals, people just like us who have had to find a new normal. Incredible consultants and dieticians who are pioneering in their work, and doing everything they can to improve quality of life and the treatments involved to help those with allergies. And of course, the likes of Allergy UK, the country’s leading allergy charity, who helped us at the very start of our journey, and supported me in particular as I sought answers and a diagnosis for Callum.

I had the pleasure of attending their Allergy Hero Awards ceremony in 2016 as a judge. The prestigious ceremony took place at the beautiful Connaught Rooms in London, with industry professionals, allergy heroes and more in attendance.

5 category winners took to the stage to receive their awards, having been nominated by the general public before specially chosen judges made the final decision as to who would win.

With a 3 course meal, entertainment and a party to follow the glittering awards ceremony, it was a fantastic event to pay tribute to the courage and dedication shown by the winners.

The event was also a chance to celebrate 25 very successful years for Allergy UK, who have been providing support, advice and so much more to thousands of people during that time.

As Carla Jones, Chief Executive said at the time:

“There was no better way to celebrate our 25th anniversary than to publicly recognise those who have helped people whose lives have been affected by allergy, from family and friends to caring health professionals. We had five worthy category winners. Our charity’s mission is to raise awareness of the realities of living with allergy. All too often there is a lack of understanding of what this can really mean to individuals and their families. Our Allergy UK Heroes are a huge inspiration for us and for the people we help every day.”

The awards were a huge success, and such a fun night to attend, and now they’re back, can you tell we’re excited?!!

Will you be coming to this years event?!

Taking place on Thursday 26th April 2018, and being held at Haberdashers’ Hall in London, the awards will be celebrating the achievements of those who have gone above and beyond

to help others with allergies, overcome challenges they’ve faced themselves and also those who have raised awareness and supported people living with allergies.

It’s an event NOT to miss!

Tickets are available, and selling fast, so be sure to get some quickly so you don’t miss out! I’ll be there on the night with Mr Intolerant G, and I know a fair other allergy advocates will be there too! It’s sure to be a fun night if the last awards are anything to go by!
