DSC_0532A few weeks ago, Callum and I arranged to meet with Mel (from Le Coin de Mel), a fellow blogger and 3 of her 4 children. One of the many things we have in common is allergic children, and through the allergy and blogging worlds we’ve got to know each other well.

We also both support Allergy UK in their quest to improve the allergy situation in the UK.

Mel and I are going to be hosting competitions on our blogs to raise as much awareness as possible for Allergy UK, with you lovely lot benefiting with a lovely prize!

Watch this space for more details!

In the meantime, back to the meet up, and the reason behind it.

In addition to hosting a competition, Callum and I are also trying to raise money for Allergy UK. We’ve been hosting ‘free from feasts’ in the run up to 12th June 2015, when fundraisers up and down the country will be hosting their very own feasts.

We kick started the process with our meeting with Mel, with the idea being to show that holding a free from feast isn’t as hard as it seems!

I can’t buy picnic foods for Callum, as they more often than not, contain at least 1 ingredient that Callum is allergic to. So, I make everything. It gives me peace of mind, it tastes better, and it’s no way near as expensive.

DSC_0528Mel brought some food for the picnic, and I also made:

  • ‘Cheese’ and onion muffins
  • Honey glazed sausages
  • Garlic and herb dip
  • Blueberry, banana and oat muffins
  • Chocolate fudge brownie bites

All of these were dairy-free, wheat-free, gluten-free, egg-free, nut-free as standard!

I shall make sure all of the recipes are added to the blog soon, as they will be really helpful for a lot of you in the run up to the summer holidays!

We had a wonderful time with Mel and her children, eating lovely food, chatting, with the children running around in a big park around us in the sunshine - although it went very chilly when the sun hid behind the clouds!!

So, why not give a ‘free from feast’ a go yourself, it’s much easier than it sounds! It shows your friends and family that ‘free from’ isn’t so hard to cater for, and you can raise money for a fab charity at the same time as having loads of fun!

As a cheeky plug, if any of you want to help Callum reach his target, the link to his fundraising page is here:

I know Callum would be so grateful, as would I! x
